Getting old with age…

As we age we get wrinkles, joint pain, and our minds aren’t as sharp as they used to be. But is that something to celebrate or to be feared as we get older? Here’s two ways to look at it: You can either look on the cynical side and think about these things in a negative manner, or you can look on the bright and positive side.

With age comes wisdom and those wrinkles? You’ve earned them. Nobody knows your body, but you so you know what it has been through and what it’s going through right now. No one knows the future so there’s no point in worrying about it. We should treat our bodies better because it’s the only one we got. If we want to stay around long enough on this planet for the various reasons like family, friends, adventure, or the pursuit of happiness then we should take care of it. The first step in doing that is talking with your doctor.

The next step is getting on a healthy diet plan that works for you. You shouldn’t think of a diet as in “Die” but with a “T”, but as in the logical and anthropological sense of “diet” what do you eat? What does your diet consists of? This is a change of life and habits and I know it’s easier said than done, but small changes at first is the way to go. You are not going to feel the good changes that a healthier diet will do for you at least six weeks down the road so don’t give up! Your diet is the most important to your health more than exercise because you can’t out run a bad diet…and it’s just bad for your heart that way.

The third step is picking an exercise and fitness routine that works for you. Yes, you will talk to your doctor about this as well. Also, if you can work with a personal trainer to help you figure out a routine that’s best for you. Once you have that down and you start slow at first and then once you get used to it you can up your physical fitness routine.

The fourth step is keeping a journal to write down your thoughts and to, in a way, work things out and also keep a record of your health journey. That way when you do hit the six week mark you can look back on your progress.

Aging doesn’t have to be so bad. Things are going to happen to your body with age, but you can make it a bit easier by doing a little self care for yourself. No one else is going to do it for you. YOU have to make the effort for YOU. If you don’t then how do you expect anyone else to love or care for you if you can’t seem to love or care for yourself. Make your own light first and shine brightly.

Just get moving…

I yelled at myself today and so I started dancing to “Just Dance 2017” on my Nintendo Switch. I really wasn’t feeling it today and my arms were really hurting after four songs. I need to go back to the gym and workout for a week and try again on Saturday. The good news is I lost two pounds in a week. I don’t know how I’ve been eating like I wasn’t on a diet this past week while on vacation. And then I totally forgot about my homework the entire week because I was so focused on studying for the vocab quiz on Wednesday…

I’m so grounding myself. I know I am an adult, but that means I can punish myself and so I will be studying most of next weekend away.

C25K II: Week 1 – Day 1

So then this happened…

My running partner and I started our second run through the app ( pun intended. XD ) on Saturday morning (4-15-2017) at the crack of dawn. This was done for a couple of reasons and one of those reasons was we could not get our schedules in sync. Our schedules were out of sync because I had to start going to the gym because of the hot weather and she was not a gym person. But, she surprised me and joined my gym so we can do our workouts in the gym. The second reason was I did not know how to restart the app and I kept forgetting where I was at. She showed me Saturday morning and now we can re-do it and keep training for the half marathon in September 2018.

C25K-R2: Week 1 – Day 3

I ran this Saturday despite me having a blister underneath my right pinky toe. When I worked out on last Wednesday I tried to take it easy. It is getting better to say the least and on Saturday one of the “run” intervals I actually RAN for twenty seconds and it felt good. I am getting there I guess and then there was talk with my running partner to go to Cedar City, Utah next fall of 2018. Why is that? For a half marathon and then I questioned how long that was, but I should of known it would be 13.1 miles. I have the marathon miles memorized as 26.2 so if it is half because it is a half marathon…eh you get the picture. Now I am training for that half marathon. This gives me at least a year and half to train even if I end up walking half or all of it…to walk half a marathon would be an accomplishment for me.

Rover Run 5K (Part Two)

I wanted to talk more about the 5k that I walked this past Saturday. I was really tired and a bit dehydrated, but I made it and next time I have to learn to drink water and walk. Even though the weather was perfect the sun got to me a little bit. It was fun seeing all those dogs there. When I walked a 5k before it took me anywhere from two to three hours to finish. I am happy that I got it down to one and half hours to finish. I still think I need a lot more training to do before I can actually start running a 5k. I need to keep the food demons away as well.

Since I used the race as a substitute for my C25K app Week 8 – Day 2 because there will be no post about that day because obviously the race counts. The last day of the training app is today. I will probably do that in the gym because now it is getting warmer outside. I will still run with my running partner early in the morning on Saturdays before sunrise so that we both do not bake in the sun. We will start the training over, but first we will take a week off to rest. Initially, in the app after you finish it says to take a week off before you to your 5k race. But, in this case it is going to be a week off and then start the training over to hone more running skills.

C25K: Week 7 – Day 3

Yesterday’s training was to run for 28 minutes… I wound up actually fast walking it because my feet and legs were hurting. Hey, in hindsight I have been doing really great up until the edge of week eight of training. This is why I am going to do the training twice over. I also want to take it easy because on Saturday there is a 5k race that I am running with a friend. Okay, in reality I will probably walk it, but jog some parts of it. I know week eight is brutal because it is the last week.

I have to lose weight. I have to lose weight. I have to lose weight.

I want to incorporate more salads into my diet and veggies and grilled fish for the protein part.

I want to fit into that dress that I saw in the shop and I have a year and half to do it.

Why is this so hard? It is not hard it should be easy, but yet this is proving to be difficult.

C25K: Week 6 – Day 3 (REDEUX)

So it turns out that my running partner did not do day three of week six this past Saturday either due to the torrential desert rain that seemed to turn into monsoon season. We decided on our running day two days ago, on Tuesday, to make it up instead of starting week seven. This throws me off and it throws off my moderate OCD-ness and now we will not end on a Saturday, but a Tuesday with the App.

Today will start week seven and I thought I was going to die doing the last day of week six. My sides hurt, my calves hurt, my feet hurt, and my muscles are still sore from Tuesday. I need to take a warm shower and then a bath to ease my muscles. I know I took one the second week of training because I was not used to it at all. There are only two more weeks left in the training app. This is the final stretch and I have to see this thing through. It is not over until I either puke, faint, or die.

C25K: Week 6 – Day 2

Yesterday’s workout seemed to just take forever, which made my muscles more tired. It was a five minute warm up walk, then ten minutes for running, three minutes for walking, and then finally ten minutes for running again. Oh and then there is the five minute cool down where I just keep walking, but at a slower pace. My muscles, feet, and sides were paining me. I will reiterate and say that my Saturday runs I enjoy more and it is not as bad. My running partner said it would have gone by faster if I remembered my earbuds for my phone for music. She is right in a way and then I am not looking at my phone constantly to see the countdown of each section. But, the thing is I either forget my Fit Bit or I forget my earbuds and I have to have my steps count.

Tonight I go to my dance class and work on my belly dancing which shapes my stomach. It is raining outside pretty hard. It is a rare sight out in the desert especially in the middle of nowhere, so when it rains it floods, and when it floods no one can get anywhere. Also, there is this thing about people who live in the desert do not know how to drive in the rain let alone if it floods. Hopefully the weather is not too bad so I can get to my class.

C25K: Week 6 – Day 1

I would like to contribute the notion that yesterday’s run was difficult even though for some reason it was almost like the runs at the end of week four, but more like the beginning of week five. I think the main difference is that it is getting warmer earlier in the year. It is not enough to get out the shorts and short sleeved shirts, but when you are running outside or exercising outside then yes, the temperature makes all the difference especially when you live out in the middle of nowhere in the desert. This time my legs were really hurting and I still had to do the grocery shopping afterwards.

When I got home I ate dinner and then twenty minutes there after I passed out literally on my bed around seven and slept until two in the morning. I stayed away for about ten to fifteen minutes before passing out again asleep until ten minutes before my alarm wakes me up at five the next morning.

With that being said, I think my exercise routine is going well and I would like to do a video blog on YouTube. But, I am not sure it will be received well because even this website is still in its baby stage. Mostly if I do blog on YouTube it will be for any hiking adventures or photos and stuff like that. The reason for that is because I can not afford more bandwidth or GB or whatever it is called to hold everything and keep it all up on the site. I know I have 8 GB worth for starters, but as all of us tech people know is that can fill up fast. I hope that makes sense. If money and bandwidth were not an issue I would post videos and pictures directly to the website.

I hope to go on some hiking adventures soon. I do not know when I can make a trip out to some easy going hiking spots, because you have to start out easy and become more physically fit before taking on bigger hiking trails. I am actually excited thinking about it.

^_^

C25K: Week 5 – Day 1

Yesterday’s run was interesting. I think on the intervals I had to run I did some slow running. Week five was not so bad, but yet it was still difficult at the same time. I do not know how that is possible, but trust me it was possible and I felt better about running the first interval of the new week. I still thought I was going to die towards the end rather than the beginning of the run.

I also was getting some foot pain while running. The pain was minimal and I think that maybe due more towards the fact that I need to use lotion on my feet rather than blame it on the diabetes. I should not dismiss that the disease is the cause of the pain though. I do need to be careful because if I do get an injury then instead of taking one day off it might turn into week or more. I do not want that because it will drive me crazy.

In other news I still need to force myself to drink more water. I do not know why it is hard for me to do that when I was younger I drank water like a camel. I know as we all get older things change like your body, mind, and food likes. I have to remind myself I am not a spring chicken anymore. It is true that you are young as you feel and age is just a number, but that takes care of your mental health. Your mental health and how you feel are important. This does not give you the license to do a cannonball off the high dive and do some foolish daredevil stunt like you are twelve again. You are not twelve so do not do stupid stuff that has a high possibility of you breaking bones, spraining something, or getting some other horrible injury. If you get injured how can you keep training?

I am not a kid, I am not a teenager, I am not even a young adult, and I am not elderly either just to be clear. I am somewhere in the middle trying to find my middle ground. I am trying to find my space to exist in and a place where I can breathe comfortably in my own skin.
